We've also started adding links from each compilation page to Lemon64 and C64Endings so you can find out more about each game.  Thanks to TNT and Vinny Mainolfi for allowing us to do this.

And another new feature: if compilations are part of a series, then they will have a 'related' section in their info which links to other compilations in the series.

Compilation Reviews - Commodore Format

After searching through old issues of ZZAP!64 for compilation reviews last week, we've just spent a few more days searching through old issues of Commodore Format and adding links to those reviews of the compilations we have in the archive.

As with the ZZAP!64 reviews, if a compilation has a Commodore Format review, then a link appears on the compilation page under the 'Compilations Reviews' section.  For example, check out:

4 Most World Sports
2 Hot 2 Handle
The Lineker Collection
Psycho's Soccer Collection

Unlike ZZAP!64, there are few websites hosting entire issues of Commodore Format (for legal reasons we assume), so we have decided to 'host' these review scans on our Dropbox account.  Please be gentle if directing people to these compilations - link to the compilation page in the archive and not directly to the scans!

As with the ZZAP! reviews, there are a few Commodore Format reviews missing because we don't actually have the compilations in our archive yet - they will become available in a future update.

Compilation Reviews - ZZAP!64

After searching through old issues of ZZAP!64 for compilation reviews the other day, we've just spent the whole evening adding links to those compilations we have in the archive that were reviewed in ZZAP and Commodore Force!

And we still have 2 pages of review links featuring compilations not yet in the archive..!

If a compilation has a ZZAP!64 / Commodore Force review, then a link appears on the compilation page under the 'Compilations Reviews' section.  For example, check out:

2 Hot 2 Handle
Epyx Epics
Magnificent Seven
We are the Champions
Yak's Progress

Special thanks go to Iain Black of zzap64.co.uk for allowing us to link to the scans on his site.

Now the task of searching through old issues of Commodore Format...

ZZAP! Search Results

Ken D Fish here with the results of a recent search through old issues of everyone's favourite C64 magazine ZZAP!64 and a few issues of the pretender to the throne, Commodore Force.

What was the search for?  Compilation reviews and 137 of them have been found and logged to feature in a future update of Compilation64!

In the meantime, feast on this small update of compilation adverts, competitions and articles found during the search...

First, a scan of a ZZAP! article about the CD compilations released by Rainbow Arts and Codemasters, namely 'CD Edition' and 'The CD Games Pack'.

Second, scans of ZZAP! competitions that mention the compilations 'Multimixx 1', 'Multimixx 2', '4 Quattro Adventure', '4 Quattro Combat', '4 Quattro Power' and '4 Quattro Sports'.

Third, a scan of a shop advertisement that features compilations, namely an offer from Boots of a free game or holiday when purchasing 'Giants' and 'The In Crowd' (and another compilation that seems to be called Mega Games Volume 1 that is unknown to us and that we are investigating now).

Last, new adverts found for compilations already in our archive, including '30 Games', 'Game Set and Match', 'Magnificent Seven', 'Live Ammo', 'The Biz', 'MegaMix' and '100% Dynamite'.

Ken D Fish signing off...

Codemasters Update

After the recent mammoth task of rescuing the entire existing archive from the brink of oblivion, comes the first proper update in around 7 years.

The information and scans in this update have been sitting in Compilation64 offline archive for about 6 years and never graced the pages of the old site, so can be considered 'new'.

And we've decided to give this update a bit of a theme; all the compilations updated or added here are from the '4 Quattro' range of budget publisher Codemasters.

Existing archived compilations that have been updated include:

4 Quattro Fighters - front cover, media
4 Quattro Sports - media, inlay

Newly added compilations include:

4 Quattro Adventure - info, front cover, media
4 Quattro Arcade - info, front cover, media
4 Quattro Cartoon - info, front cover, back cover, media
4 Quattro Coin-ops - info, front cover, media
4 Quattro Combat - info, front cover, media
4 Quattro Firepower - info, front cover
4 Quattro Power - info, front cover, media
4 Quattro Racers - info, front cover, back cover, media
4 Quattro Skills - info, front cover, media
4 Quattro Super Hits - info, front cover, media

Thanks to all those who contributed these all those years ago...

Compilation64 Relaunch

Welcome to the new Compilation64 site!

The entire archive (information and scans) has now been brought over from the corrupt old site.  For an explanation of what happened to the old site, click the 'About' button above.

If you notice anything missing, not working or linked incorrectly, please let us know by clicking the 'Contact Us' button above.

New scans and information will be added over the coming weeks/months.

Under (Re)construction...

If you're reading this, you've found your way to the new 'under construction' Compilation64 site.

The site as it was designed 10 years ago no longer exists due to various work files becoming corrupt - it cannot now be updated easily so is being declared officially dead.

However, since many people still contact the site and find it useful, the information and scans are being migrated to Blogger.  It is perhaps a bit lame to use such a system instead of a bespoke site, but this will ensure the archive is protected and will be more easily edited/updated.

More news will follow shortly.

STOP THE PRESS!

Fair enough... Compilation64 has been a bit neglected the last few years, but things are about to change...

First of all, there is the new news system and an RSS feed which you are reading right now! Second, behind the scenes, updates are in progress along with a new way of displaying scans.

In non-Compilation64 news, Gordon Houghton (former writer and editor of ZZAP!64) has released a new book. Buy it here...

Compilation64 Contribution Request!

Over the last few weeks, a few things have been tweaked and updated on the site and we are now almost ready for our Summer ‘08 update, the first major archive update in a few years. Before this happens, we ask everyone to search their game collections and hard drives for contributions - scans would be great, but even just information about any compilations not currently included in our archive would also be welcome. To see what is in our archive presently, click the 'archive' button at the top of the page and to find out how to contribute, click the 'contribute' button.

Compilation64 Site Search

A brand new search engine has been added to the site to help you find the compilation information you require. It is a “free” search engine that includes small adverts in the results. We apologise for this, but feel the benefits outweigh the negatives. You should find the search box somewhere on this page!

Compilation64 Returns

For a long time now, Compilation64 has been experiencing problems with it’s free web host. Enter stage left Iain Black, webmaster of The Def Guide to ZZAP!64, who has kindly offered to host Compilation64 for free! So we are now fully back online!

Christmas ‘05 Site Update

Compilation64 has been updated with brand new, corrected and additional information and associated cover, media and advert scans. All of the latest additions and scans have been added to our archive, but they can also be viewed on a separate page here. Thanks to all the contributors!

Compilation64 Forum

The Compilation64 Forum is currently experiencing problems. This is due to mySQL database issues with our host. Please stay with us, hopefully it will be fixed soon...

October ‘05 Site Update
